Aromatherapy Essential Oils for Massage

Aromatherapy Oils to Use for Massage Oils

NOTE: Use these blends for massage only if you safely know how to administer a massage.

Use 8-10 drops of your selected essential oil or blend your own essential oil. Make sure the EOs do not have anything in them that will be too sensitive for the skin. Add 1 ounce carrier oil, such as sweet almond.

Directions: Mix the oils together well and then put them in an amber or cobalt glass bottle. Use during massage, however, avoid any sensitive areas of the body. Massage is a physical and emotional pleasure to the body and is an appealing means of expressing caring and relieving stress of the recipient. The massage experience may be augmented by adding an essential oil blend that is safe. Certified massage therapists undergo training for hundreds of hours before they may work on the public, so there is much more to massage than you are probably aware of. However, we can perform massage on our loved ones by using techniques we have learned and then enhancing the experience by using a safe essential oil blend. Listed below are some guidelines for massage techniques.

Do not use hard or painful pressure. Hard pressure may feel good, but gentle movements are safer and more effective over the long term. Do not directly massage the bones and never massage areas that have been fractured. Do not massage the stomach area of a pregnant woman or anyone with any types of abdominal problems. Do not attempt to crack someone's back. Do not massage anyone who could have blood clots. In fact, be extremely cautious of massaging anyone with special medical issues. Those persons should have massage from a certified massage therapist.

When using essential oils in massage, do not massage undiluted essential oils, absolutes or CO2s into the skin. Dilute the blend first by following the guidelines listed below:

For a massage oil recipe use 1 ounce carrier oil (sweet almond is good) and 15-30 drops of essential oils. Choose oils that are conducive to your massage and that are not unsafe to the recipient or the giver of the massage.

An example of a stress blend to be used in massage: 15 drops Clary Sage/10 drops lemon/5 drops Lavender Aphrodisiac. Blend 15 drops Sandalwood/5 drops Jasmine.

To assist with sleeping: Blend 15-20 drops Roman Chamomile

For Sore Muscles: Blend 3 drops Ginger, 2 drops Black Pepper, 5 drops Peppermint, 5 drops Eucalyptus.

Directions: Mix the oils well, then store them in a dark glass container that is air tight. Use only a small amount, about (1/2-1 teaspoon for each massage.
