Essential Oil Precautions

Precautions to take When Using Essential Oils

Read all you can about aromatherapy. There are many things you need to know and be aware of regarding the benefits, as well as safety of aromatherapy and essential oils. There are many books, as well as much information on the internet regarding the subject of aromatherapy and essential oils. Of course, before using them, you should also speak with a qualified aromatherapist who will learn your needs and health concerns.

Be aware of the quality of the essential oils that you purchase, as the quality may greatly differ. Only purchase from reputable companies or aromatherapy practitioners. In fact, some companies even claim that their oils are undiluted or pure, when, in fact, they are not.

Learn to comparison shop. For example there are many different varieties of plants such as lavender, cedarwood, eucalyptus and anise. In order to differentiate between these plant varieties, you need to learn their botanical names (Latin names) so that you may be able to tell the difference between them. For example with the bay essential oil, them may derive from two different plants. Thus, you need to know the botanical names, which in this care are Pimenta racemosa and Laurus nobilis, because the elements and aroma of the two oils differ, as does the cost.

Perfume oils are not the same as essential oils. Essential oils provide therapeutic benefits; perfume oils do not, they are merely fragrant oils. You may as well enjoy therapeutic benefits of the aroma, rather than merely the aroma itself. With essential oils, you get both.
