Diffusing Essential Oil Methods 3

Methods for Diffusing Essential Oils page 3

Candle diffusers use a tea light or some other candle in order to gradually heat the essential oil so that it may diffuse into a room. The candle diffuser is normally ceramic or metal and it contains an opening for a candle and a small bowl or tray for storing the essential oil. There are many different shapes, sizes and colors of candle diffusers, some even look like works of art. They are generally inexpensive and do not require electricity or batteries, which are just some of the advantages of this diffusing method. However, the main disadvantage is that you need to be very careful with the candle diffuser for the same reasons you would with candles in general. Also the aroma is usually quite light and concentrated in one small area rather than in the entire room. The heat could change or destroy certain constituents of the oils, thus reducing the therapeutic benefits.

Fan diffusers use a fan in order to blow the essential oils into the air. They come in all shapes and sizes. Normally the way in which this system operates is that essential oils are applied to a disposable absorbent pad or into a tray, then the pad or tray is placed into the unit and the power is turned on. The fan blows air across the pad or tray and the aroma is carried throughout the room. Generally, the smaller fan diffusers will only diffuse a small room, whereas the larger diffusers will diffuse larger areas. Fan diffusers come in a variety of styles and depending on the brand and model, they can disperse their fragrance over a large area. They are generally very easy to use. They can also be quite portable because some fan diffusers operate by both batteries or electricity. Some of the disadvantages include their noise and also some diffusers require purchase of replacement absorbent pads.
