Diffusing Essential Oil Methods 2

Methods for Diffusing Essential Oils page 2

There are several diffusers and diffusion products on the market today. You should always check the safety precautions and requirements before purchasing any diffuser to make sure it is suitable for your needs.

Lamp rings are a simple type of diffusion product that can be used easily. It sits directly on a light bulb and contains a grooved lip that circles it. The lip is what holds the essential oil which is then heated from the heat of the light bulb, which causes the fragrance to be diffused into the room. One big advantage to this method is that the lamp rings are relatively inexpensive. Another advantage is that this method is very simple to do. Disadvantages are that the light bulb could break if any essential oil gets onto the light bulb and also, the heat could change or damage some of the constituents of the oils, thereby losing any therapeutic benefits they may give you.

Clay pots, which look like little terra-cotta pots, are also available as diffusers. They are also found in different shapes and sizes, some in the form of a pyramid. Clay pot diffusers have an opening for the purpose of adding essential oils. Sometimes a cork will be used to close the opening. By using this method, the oils permeate all through the pot, then diffuse into the room. This aroma may be very intense with this method depending on how much essential oil is used. One advantage to this method is that clay pot diffusers are inexpensive and easy to use. They also do not need electricity or batteries. A disadvantage is that it is difficult to keep up the same level of aroma in the room because the aroma is very strong after adding the essential oil, but it dissipates as time passes.
