You need to cross reference many scientific studies of oils with
their chemical data. After all, the information you have gathered on
a particular essential oil is only as good as its research. There is
a lot of inaccurate data on essential oils from so-called experts in
the field of aromatherapy essential oils, pure essential oils,
organic essential oils and so forth.
Do not rely on one single method for testing. Conduct all testing
procedures as cross-reference is the only accurate method to obtain
truthful results. In this day and age, people are very skeptical of
manufacturers, or in this case, suppliers and distillers. As
consumers of these products we need to know what compromises the
supplier may be willing to make, as well as the motivations of
people who are profiting from these products. In order to find out
the truth of the products themselves, we, as consumers, must look at
the entire subject. If we personally go to the grower or distiller,
we still may not be assured that they are testing their oils. And
those who do test are not usually looking for pesticides or
herbicides. Many farmers, even honest farmers, do not even know what
the chemical composition should look like.
Only if a person is an expert with GC-MS testing is he able to know
the truth of whether or not an essential oil is pure, as well as the
correct chemo-type. Even if there were a certifying organization
that stated certain essential oils were pure, unless you are aware
of where the oils came from and conduct your own testing, the oils
cold still be adulterated. The market is flooded with cheap, natural
and synthetic chemicals, including many variations in essential oils
in which sophisticated suppliers can fool just about anyone. If the
essential oil market were to become a part of the pharmaceutical
industry, it would lead to standardization, which would soon lead to
adulteration of the essential oils. Therefore, it is best to leave
