continue: Using Aromatherapy Essential Oils

continue: Introducing Aromatherapy Essential Oils into your Life

You may use essential oils for other household freshening purposes. For example, you may add a few drops of oil to your drain, laundry, vacuum bag filter, trash can or on a tissue to put in your drawers.

Essential oils may also be used to repel bugs. One well known oil for this purpose is citronella. Lavender and peppermint are also effective as natural insect repellants. Just put a few drops of essential oil onto tissues or cotton balls and put them near doors and windows to repel insects. Of course you need to be extremely cautious when using this method because some essential oils may be toxic to your pets. Also, do not put the essential oil directly onto delicate surfaces.

For massage purposes, essential oils are ideal. You may add up to 20 drops of essential oils to one ounce of a carrier oil such as the fragrant sweet almond oil and massage it onto yourself or partner. Keep this oil away from eyes and genital areas. Also dilute the essential oils with a carrier oil before applying it to the skin. And read the instructions/precautions for the essential oils you plan to use.

Essential oils create a pleasant aura for your bath. Just add five to seven drops of essential oils to one ounce carrier oil, then add it to your running bath water and mix well. Also read the safety information carefully for the essential oil(s) you plan to use for this purpose.

Essential oils may also be used to create homemade lotions, facial toners/cleansers, shampoos, soaps, shower gels, perfumes and other natural products.

You will enjoy the pleasant aromas, as well as the pleasurable feelings that essential oils can bring, but use them wisely.
