Using Aromatherapy Essential Oils

Introducing Aromatherapy Essential Oils into your Life

It is easy and fun to introduce essential oils into your health and beauty regimen, not to mention the therapeutic values that will occur from their usage. Listed below are some suggestions that will help you introduce essential oils into your lifestyle. You need to remember that there are also safety guidelines which you need to follow when using these essential oils. One major precaution: Essential oils are flammable.

In order to inhale essential oils, put three to four drops on a tissue, then put the tissue close to your nose and inhale. If you are trying out a new essential oil, use just one drop so that you can determine whether or not you may have a sensitivity or an allergic reaction to it.

Steam inhalation of essential oils is beneficial for cold and flu symptoms and it may also energize or relax you. To inhale essential oils as steam, you will need to boil plain water first before adding the essential oils. Boil two cups of water then pour the water into a bowl and add three to seven drops of oil to the water. Some oils could cause irritations to the mucous membranes. These oils may include cinnamon, eucalyptus, rosemary, pine, thyme, cajuput, to name a few. If you are using one such oil, use fewer drops. To inhale the steam, put your nose approximately 12" from the bowl, then inhale. Do not inhale the steam continuously. Stop right away if there are any signs of irritation or discomfort.

Essential oils may also be used to freshen a room. You may use the steam inhalation process, but do not directly inhale the steam. You may use as many as 10 drops of oil for the purpose of a room freshener. You may also scent your room by using an aromatherapy diffuser or a lamp scent ring. Many aromatherapy companies carry these products.
