Bath Salt Essential Oil Recipe
Use the following ingredients for essential oil bath salts: 3
cups sea salt (this may be regular sea salt, dead sea salt or Epsom
salt or a blend of 2 or 3 of those salts). There are several
different grain sizes of sea salts and you may combine the different
grains to give your salts more appeal. But coarse grains will take
longer to dissolve. Add 15-24 drops of your chosen essential oil or
essential oil blend. Use all safety precautions for your particular
essential oil blend. Then add 1 tablespoon fractionated coconut oil
or another carrier oil for moisture.
Directions: Put the salt mixture into a bowl. Add drops of your
selected essential oils and mix well with a fork. Add the mixture to
an attractive jar, salt tube or other container with a lid that fits
tight. Mix the oils again in about a day to ensure that they have
blended well. Then add 1/2 to 1 cup of the salts to your running
bath water and mix well to disperse the salt before entering the
tub. Or you may add the bath salts right before you get into the tub
instead of when the water is running to keep the essential oils from
evaporating quickly. Make sure the salts dissolve well as you will
not be comfortable sitting on bath salts that have not properly
dissolved.
If you would like to color your bath salts, you may use a product
such as FD&C liquid dye or mica powder. Add the liquid dye or the
mica powder before you add the essential oils. Be sure to only add
one drop of the dye at a time, then stir well. If you are using mica
powder, only add a very small amount such as 1/16-1/8 teaspoon and
stir well. The water and/or your skin could become discolored if you
use too much dye or mica powder so be very cautious. You only want
to achieve a nice soft pastel color in your bath salts, because if
you create darker salts, you could end up with problems. Also, it is
very important that you use colorants that are safe for your skin;
and that you or another person using the bath salt blend does not
have any allergies or skin sensitivities to the colorant that you
selected.
