Aromatherapy and Therapeutic grade Essential Oils

Aromatherapy Essential Oils

The healing outcomes that are attributed to aromatic elements in essential oils and other extracts of plants is called aromatherapy, which is a form of herbal medicine. Medicinal components are contained in many essential oils which have been used for centuries in folk medicine, but are still in use today.

Essential oils contain antiseptic elements. Some of these essential oils contain strong properties, while others are much milder. Some essential oils may also have an invigorating outcome on the mind, although various oils have different properties.

The term therapeutic grade refers to essential oils that are undiluted and are appropriate for aromatherapy. Pharmacopeia grade essential oils are oils in their purest form.

Many of the more potent essential oils could irritate the skin, therefore, many must be diluted with a carrier oil. Sweet almond oil, olive oil, rosehip seed and hazelnut are some types of carrier oils; they are also considered fat plant oils.

You may conduct your own test to find out if an oil is therapeutic grade. Just put a drop of the oil on a coffee filter, the oil will dissipate without any oily residue on the paper if the distilled essential oil is volatile matter, whereas cold-pressed essential oils and absolutes will most likely leave a spot. The therapeutic grades are not the only determination of quality. As an example Indian Sandalwood, which is an endangered essential oil, is much more pleasing than Australian Sandalwood because of its nice fragrance. It is also more expensive, as are most of the organic and wild harvested essential oils.
