Freshen your Home with Therapeutic
Grade Essential Oils
To create an air freshener, use the following ingredients: 4
ounce clean spray bottle with the fine mist setting. Absolutely do
not use a bottle that had cleaning or hair products solutions stored
in it--it is best to use a brand new bottle. Then use 30-40 drops of
your favorite essential oil or your favorite essential oil blend.
Make sure you use the requisite safety precautions when choosing
your essential oil(s); then 1.5 ounces of distilled water and 1.5
ounces of high proof alcohol. Vodka is appropriate; rubbing alcohol
is not, or 3 ounces of distilled water.
Some examples blends of essential oils that you may use are: 20
drops of lime; 14 drops bergamot; 4 drops ylang ylang; 2 drops rose;
15 drops clary sage; 9 drops lemon; 6 drops lavender; 20 drops
rosemary- 8 drops grapefruit; 4 drops peppermint; 2 drops spearmint
(optional); 15 drops bergamot; 15 drops spearmint. Once again, heed
all safety precautions for the oils that you select because the air
freshener will be in contact with anyone who lives, or comes into,
your house.
Directions: Fill the spray bottle with either 1.5 ounces of
distilled water and 1.5 ounces of alcohol or 3 ounces of distilled
water. A 4 ounce bottle is suggested, but leave about 1 ounce
unfilled so that you may shake the bottle well between each use.
Then add 30-40 drops of the essential oil. Keep in mind that
essential oils will differ in strength, so start with 20 drops
first, especially if there is someone in your household who is
sensitive to odors/fragrances. Remember to shake the bottle before
each use. When you first put the drops, in and after you shake it,
let it stand for about a day before deciding whether or not you need
to add more of the essential oil. The aroma may change after the air
freshener sits for a while. Then spray a room lightly, but do not
spray near furniture or food. After you have sprayed it, you may
wish to add a few more drops, then once again let it stand for about
a day before spraying again.
